You know its opening week when they release this many clips on the interwebs. I’m personally finished with my bitching about how much they need Robert Englund, because the films in the can and about to hit the cinema.

But one more gripe for old times’ sake, the voice is still horrible. That is all.

I’m still as apprehensive about this movie as ever and, the TV spots and trailers are not easing my pain. In fact the more I see the more worried I get. In less than two weeks the new Freddy hits the cinema, whether I like it or not. A Nightmare on Elm Street opens April 30th. Are we all holding our breath or is it just me?

“Nancy, Kris, Quentin, Jesse and Dean all live on Elm Street. At night, they’re all having the same dream–of the same man, wearing a tattered red and green striped sweater, a beaten fedora half-concealing a disfigured face and a gardener’s glove with knives for fingers. And they’re all hearing the same frightening voice…

I am really trying to change my opinion on this A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, but I just can’t the voice is wrong and now this. They made Freddy look way too much like an actual burn victim, he looks like he walked off the burn unit. Frankly, it doesn’t scare me as much as it makes me a little sad for him. Now if that’s their intention, then mission accomplished. I don’t know too much realism might pull me out of the plot, and from what I recall from reading the script, it’s thin enough as it is. Thoughts, groans, moans.

I can admit when I’m wrong and this is not one of those times, yet. The new official trailer for the A Nightmare on Elm Street was released at midnight. And yes they obviously worked on the voice a bit, but I’m not sure it’s working for me. I’m really going to give this movie a chance, promise. But here it is in all its high def glory.

We’re most likely probably maybe are going to have a guest blogger for a review of this one. This guest has read the book and we’ll tell us if Martin Scorsese and his mistressmuse, Leonardo DiCaprio did justice to his adaptation. I’m probably the one woman on the planet who doesn’t get the Leo thing. I don’t think he’s hot and I don’t think he’s that great of an actor, he’s ok, but the whole fan fair, I don’t get. It’s not like he’s Johnny Depp.

Apparently, Jackie Earle Haley knows that the Scrooge McDuck voice he was using for Freddy only evoked chuckles from us, because he admits they are still working on it. Rorschach (Haley) tells Sci-Fi Wire :
“We’re still working on it. There’s still more [additional dialogue recording] stuff to do, so it’s an ongoing process, I think, until it comes out.”

And even though I think they should be well in post-production, Haley goes on to say the re-shoots aren’t anything to be alarmed about.

“Just some re-shoots and tweaks that I think are probably customary for pretty much every movie that gets made.”

I don’t know, I’m still thinking this is going to end up as utterly terrible as the Friday remake. Seriously, watch shit on cable and tell me what you think? Help me see it something in it that worked. Besides the underused Jason that is.

I’m still not fully on board with Leo in a horror, because I’m still jaded about Secret Window, Johnny Depp’s half-ass return to “horror”, so can Leo pulls this off? We shall see , I guess. Yes, I know Johnny and Leo have nothing to do with each other, but it’s the way mind works. Anyway to refresh the noggin, here’s the story:

It’s 1954, and up-and-coming U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. He’s been pushing for an assignment on the island for personal reasons, but before long he wonders whether he hasn’t been brought there as part of a twisted plot by hospital doctors whose radical treatments range from unethical to illegal to downright sinister. Teddy’s shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals “escape” in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything – his memory, his partner, even his own sanity.

Regardless of the fact their movies suck Platinum Dunes is insisting on continuing to abuse us all with their insipid remakes. So, expect the release of Friday the 13th Part 2 on August 13, 2010. Yes, Jason will be back, perhaps this time we will actually get to see Derek Mears. Maybe, hopefully, probably not it is them.
Now on to the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake teaser trailer. First, off like everyone else I was truly excited when I realized the trailer had been released. And was really hoping Bay and his minions pulled off a surprise, but then I watched it. It was lackluster at best, yes visually it looks better, but it’s missing the creepy, scary feeling of the original Nightmare.

Having had high hopes for Jackie Earle Haley because I think he is truly talented, I’m kind of worried now. Haley’s portrayal of pedophile in Little Children was amazing, and he was the highlight of Watchmen as well. But, something about him as Freddy isn’t working in these scenes. He wasn’t frightening or creepy like he needs to be. I think this is intentional, but I’m not sure how it’s going to work. Do we really need to feel sorry for Freddy?

Sorry, but I have to jump on the bandwagon; the voice ain’t working. Also, what was with the corny slow motion reveal of the sweater? Ok, so if we’re going that way, where’s the fedora going to come from? He’s not wearing it when he died…that’s all I’m saying.

Per B. Fuller: Is that Freddy’s final look?

No, it isn’t – we are continuing to refine Freddy’s look. Many people commented about the CGI on his face – and I don’t want to give everything away but I will say this – Freddy’s face is 98% practical make-up. Moreover, as you now know we went hardcore on what a burn victim really looks like, and I can’t imagine what the comments would have been if he DIDN’T look like a real burn victim.

Is that Freddy’s final voice?

No, Jackie spent so much time on the voice, researching what people who’ve has their vocal cords burned sound like. He is still working on it and I suspect that we will be refining it, until the last moment.

Will it be rated PG-13?

Are you kidding me? Make no mistake about it this is a R-rated movie.

Finally, many of you tell me how you have been defending me in chat rooms. I just want you know that I really appreciate that. We will never be free of haters, but if we can at least present ourselves in an intelligent way we can point out the absurdity of having a negative opinion about something that doesn’t even exist yet.
