The Thing to Return to the Screen

Nope not Courtney Love, the other Thing. Variety reports:
Universal will add a new chapter to “The Thing,” lining up another take on the paranoid horror classic most recently brought to the screen by John Carpenter in 1982.
Studio has set “Battlestar Galactica” exec producer Ron Moore to write the script and commercials director Matthijs Van Heijningen to direct the re-imagining.

New project borrows heavily from the John W. Campbell Jr. short story “Who Goes There,” the basis of the Carpenter film and 1951 Howard Hawks original “The Thing From Another World.”

It is set in a Norwegian camp and chronicles how the shape-shifting alien was first discovered and overcame the inhabitants of that camp. Strike Entertainment’s Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing. David Foster will be exec producer.

I’m so tired of the “re-imaging.” Here’s an idea let’s set rewind and go back to making new films. I thought the WGA was off strike, but that couldn’t be because no one is writing anything new. Here’s the trailer from the Carpenter movie.

Angel Heart Remake Completely Possible – No, Seriously

I have tried twice to watch this movie as an adult and I still don’t get it. It’s something about the devil and voodoo, that’s about all I can gather. Robert Deniro has a ponytail and a cane. Because the devil so looks like. Aside from the bizarre, not even remotely hot love scenes with Mickey Rourke and Lisa Bonet, it’s a relative slow movie. This is a total shame because this is when Mickey was a babe. Anyway, the Hollywood remake machine is plotting the return this mess to screen.

Here are the deathtails according to Variety: Michael De Luca has partnered with Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta to develop a bigscreen remake of the 1987 Mickey Rourke supernatural thriller “Angel Heart.”

Producers optioned remake rights from a private U.K. firm, which owns the rights to the original film, which was produced by Carolco and distributed by TriStar. De Luca, Rosenzweig and Gaeta also optioned the underlying book rights to William Hjortsberg’s novel “Falling Angel,” from which original film was adapted.

Original film, which caused a stir for its steamy sex scenes, was written and directed by Alan Parker and also starred Robert De Niro and Lisa Bonet.

Novel follows the exploits of Harry Angel, a New York detective hired by a mysterious client to track down a once-popular performer indebted to him. While pursuing this seemingly routine investigation, Harry encounters dark and supernatural forces.
De Luca, whose recent producing credits include “21″ and “Ghost Rider,” said he has long been a fan of the novel. “It’s a great blend of genres with a great Faustian bargain, compelling, universal themes and a rare combination of literary and commercial appeal,” he said.

“Angel Heart” remake was brought to De Luca Prods. by exec Josh Bratman, who will executive produce.

Natalie Portman Jumping on Remake Wagon

Internet rumors are rapid on this one, guys. According to my cousin’s sister’s boyfriend’s uncle, who knows a guy that read this on the Internet, Natalie Portman is slated to play the lead in the remake of 1977’s Suspiria. Anyone ever see this? Yeah, me neither, but it’s got a cool tagline. The Only Thing More Terrifying Than The Last 12 Minutes Of This Film Are The First 92. I went and looked it up, it looks like a corny mess. Yeah, fun!

A young American dancer travels to Europe to join a famous ballet school. As she arrives, the camera turns to another young woman, who appears to be fleeing from the school. She returns to her apartment where she is gruesomely murdered by a hideous creature. Meanwhile, the young American is trying to settle in at the ballet school, but hears strange noises and is troubled by bizarre occurrences. She eventually discovers that the school is merely a front for a much more sinister organization.
