The cast and crew of The Walking Dead give fans a taste of what’s coming on the first day of shooting for Season 2. Dead bodies, drama, and, of course, so much fun! I bet you were expecting me to make with the wisecracks. I have nothing negative to say about this show. I know it’s rare. The Walking Dead returns this fall on AMC.

Well not that gnarly, but pretty darn good. The Walking Dead season two is currently in production in the Atlanta. I so need to do a walk-on. A zombie in fabulous heels. Can you imagine? Executive Producer/Writer/Director Frank Darabont says, “At this moment, I’m standing on a stretch of post-apocalypse interstate in Georgia, littered with abandoned cars and blessing my good luck to be reunited with our amazing cast, and our fantastic directors and crew. Across the board, there are none better. It’s great to be shooting again. I think we’ve embarked on a great season.”

I can hardly type this, actually I can hardly type today anyway. But, my fingers are shouting with glee as I write this. The George A. Romero, zombie deity (am I sure about that moniker? It stays.) has signed on to appear in zombie level of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation expansion pack. Along side Romero is – wait for it… Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street), Sarah Michelle Gellar (The Grudge), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) and Danny Trejo (Machete)!

The Hollywood Reporter reports the story focuses on a shipwrecked crew of fearless explorers who are hopelessly stranded in a remote abandoned Siberian outpost. Their dream of discovering the true origins of the mysterious Element 115 unravels into a Hellish nightmare hosted by hordes of ravenous Zombies.

Loves it! The expansion pack is available for download on Xbox Live starting May 3.

Now, I know it’s hard to believe because I’m Southern, but I have never held or shot a real gun. My gun firing has been reserved for Play Station games or back in the day Duck Hunt. Yeah, I’m old, but here’s something I think I could possibly dig. Today’s Geek-out involves ZOMBIE killin’! They even have zombie clowns. And you guys know I HATE clowns.

A longer trailer for AMC’s The Walking Dead has exploded on the web and it’s great. Even for a TV horror cynic like myself, I have to say I’m truly impressed and (looks around to make sure no one’s looking) excited. I know, I’m shocked too.

Surprise it’s about zombies! However, wait, it comes from the King of zombies, George A. Romero, so it’s all good. For this venture into zombie-land Romero slightly changes his approach. Zombies overrun the world; throw in a feuding family and wondering rebel fighters, all works for me.
Rebel military man Crocket (Alan Van Sprang) and his band of rogue soldiers seek refuge from the living dead, only to land squarely in a family feud between the undead-hating O’Flynns and the Muldoons, a cure-seeking clan determined to help their zombie kinfolk. Cult horror master George A. Romero rises again to deliver another delicious zombie fest where the festering question is: Can a caring family coexist with their flesh-eating loved ones?
The movie is set to be released May 28, 2010.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls definitely has that Buffy feel to it. Seriously, could you see Willow and Zander looking on during the training? Yes, I just referenced nerd, so what. Check out the trailer for the upcoming prequel. The book hits stores March 23, 2010.

Now in reality The Crazies was only about 90 minutes, but like all movies these days there were a few scenes that moved a little too slowly for my taste.

However, there were major parts that provided some serious intensity filled moments. And ladies, Timothy Olyphant passes the he’s hot in a tee and jeans litmus test. (Email me for details. I’m working on the study for NASA) The Crazies tells the story of the small town of Ogden Marsh. It’s just like you imagine a small American town to be, so small they even have a town drunk. Yup just one. As we know from the many, many clips and trailers something is very wrong in the town. The town’s folk are infected with a mind altering virus and we follow the sheriff (Olyphant) and few other non-infected as they try to escape from the town. Although parts of their journey moved slow, we are rewarded with some good old fashioned violence. Pitchforks, shotguns, oh my.

The Crazies like I mentioned had moments of trite, lovers risking it all to save each other, trusting friendships tested and of course the human survial spirit that always conquers all. But, the reason this movie stands out from I am Legend, Dawn of the Dead and the other virus zombie movies the infected didn’t go all Cgi and start leaping over cars and shit. They didn’t try to eat you. The infected simply went mad. Mad in a way that made them want to off your ass. In some pretty henious ways; let’s just say someone gets their eyes and lips sewn together.

Despite the trite patches The Crazies is a pretty good watch, that almost moved fast enough for me. Almost. See it!
